Description
The name 'Hale Moku'is Hawaiian for "home of the sailor that has returned from the sea". Named in honor of the legacy owner, Perry W. Johnson, Jr. Cmdr, USN (Retired) and incorporating the Johnson family's love for all things Hawaiian. The central unit of the structure was the Post Office of the settlement of Crosby and stood about 100 yards east on what is now Route 54. It is over 110 years old and was moved downhill on wooden rollers to its current location circa 1935. Over the past 70+ years, the kitchen, bath, downstairs bedroom and porch were added on. In 1976, the upper structure was raised up and two bedrooms were added.
