Some visitors only think of the Finger Lakes as a ski region. Who can blame them? It is home to some of the best ski resorts in the country, and our lake-effect snow helps to create the perfect conditions for a winter adventure. However, there’s so much more to this region than just skiing. During the warm months, this area transforms into an excellent destination for family getaways. If you’re deciding when to go to the Finger Lakes, consider visiting during the hottest months of the year! How to Enjoy the Finger Lakes in the Summer
Spend an Afternoon on the Water
Of course, the number one reason to visit the Finger Lakes is the gorgeous lakes! You could easily spend a week doing nothing but boating, paddleboarding, fishing, and swimming. Visitors who book one of our stunning lakeside rentals will be able to do all of the above just by walking out their door! Consider booking one of our homes that offers paddleboards or kayaks for guests’ use. If you’d prefer something more exciting, you can try your hand at white water rafting at Letchworth State Park. This is considered the Grand Canyon of the East and offers several miles of Class I and II rapids.
Hike the Day Away
The fun doesn’t stop on the water! Hiking is another incredibly popular thing to do in the Finger Lakes. This region is home to some beautiful state parks and gorge trails, so you’ll have plenty from which to choose. Some of the most scenic spots are at Buttermilk Falls State Park near Cayuga Lake. There are almost five miles of interconnected trails winding through the park. If you only have time to hike one, choose the main waterfall trail. At the end of the path, you’ll get to enjoy a gorgeous view of the famous waterfall for which the park is named.
Attend a Wine Event
Finger Lakes wine country is among the top in the world. In fact, USA Today named it the best in the United States! The local wineries specialize in fragrant white varieties like Riesling and Gewurztraminer, though you’ll find plenty of variety. Cayuga Lake, Keuka Lake, and Seneca Lake each have their own wine trail which hosts special events all year-round. Some of our favorite summer events include Woofstock at Americana Vineyards as well as the winery’s Fourth of July event.
