Where to Find the Best Finger Lakes Fall Foliage

The Finger Lakes region is famous for its incredible displays of orange, reds, yellows, and browns during the fall season. Leaf peepers and photographers come from all over the country to enjoy the amazing sights. Let Finger Lakes fall foliage become part of your annual tradition. Here are some of the best places to see the foliage! If you need help planning the rest of your trip to the Finger Lakes, download our free Vacation Guide. It’s full of our personal recommendations for everything in the region, from restaurants to hiking trails and more! It’s the perfect all-in-one guide to this area we call home, and we’re so excited to share it with you. Download it today!

Where to see Finger Lakes Fall Foliage

Canandaigua Lake

Start your leaf peeping adventure at the northernmost tip of Canandaigua Lake and head down West Lake Road. This drive is enough of an opportunity to see some incredible foliage, but it also conveniently takes us to our next stop on the tour of trees.

About 15 minutes into your drive south, you’ll come across Onanda Park. This quiet, lakefront park in the town of Canandaigua is the perfect place to enjoy a picnic lunch or an easy stroll. One of our favorite things to do here is to sit in some of the available chairs and gaze out on the water. However, if you’re looking for a great hike, we’ve got the inside scoop. There are 73 acres of Uplands located across the road. You can hike two miles of hiking trail over the hillside and encounter gorgeous vistas.

After your hike, continue to explore on Route 21S towards Naples, you will discover a vast array of photo-worthy sights as you climb and descend the hills surrounding Canandaigua Lake. Along your ride grab a snack at one of the many fruit stands offering freshly picked grapes, or better yet, a grape pie from the infamous Monica’s Pies just outside Naples.  Fortunately, this area also neighbors many of our vacation rentals that fit the bill for the perfect foliage-oriented weekend.

Seneca Lake

Another wonderful scenic drive begins in Geneva, near Seneca Lake. Drive along NY 14 South and look at the stunning views of the lake on the left and the trees on the right. This road continues to Watkins Glen, where you can explore the town or head to the state park, which has some of the best hiking trails in the Finger Lakes. Explore the Gorge Trail, which is famous for its winding staircases and views.

Cayuga Lake

Cayuga Lake State Park is ideal for families traveling with small kids. The little ones will love playing on the swing sets and other equipment, and you’ll love the priceless views!

If you’re in the mood for a glass of wine, the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail is the perfect opportunity for another scenic drive. Wineries like Toro Run or Thirsty Owl are perfect places to stop and enjoy the view and a glass of wine!

Keuka Lake

The Keuka Outlet Trail is a rail-trail in the heart of the Finger Lakes. This path stretches between Keuka and Seneca Lake, with plenty of opportunities to see the vistas for which the Finger Lakes are famous, including waterfalls and historic buildings.

“The property was lovely. It was up to date and well taken care of. The extras were a nice touch including the doggy bag for our Lucy.”

– Taken by Sandra B. from Attica, NY, who stayed at My Kind of Paradise on Conesus Lake.

“Thank you Timber Ridge and Finger Lakes Premier Properties! This was the perfect location for my sisters and girlfriends to spend the weekend together! We are all from different areas including Utica, Rochester, Buffalo, Jamestown and Fredonia. The accommodations and comforts were better than we imagined – not to mention the beautiful aesthetics of the home and the view!! We will be back!”

– Taken by Rebekah B from Jamestown, NY, who stayed at Timber Ridge on Keuka Lake.

“What a great stay at a beautiful location! The dock area is amazing. Definitely the highlight of our trip.”

– Taken by Jeffery W. from Bel Air, LA, who stayed at The Good Life on Canandaigua Lake.

“Best property in our 6 years of renting. Plenty of room for a large group (13) and all kinds of nice amenities. Enjoyed the fire pit on the cliff and the large deck. Ping pong table was utilized often as well as the hammock. Bathroom for every bedroom was very nice.”

– Taken by David M. from Robesonia, PA, who stayed at Seneca Lake Effect on Seneca Lake.

“We had an amazing time at Five Gates. The house is beautiful and comfortably fit our family of thirteen. Everything was impeccable and incredibly well appointed with everything you’ll ever need on vacation. Our only regret is not staying for a few more days. We loved it!”

– Taken by Alessandra L from Jersey City, NJ, who stayed at Five Gates on Seneca Lake.

“Had a great vacation. Loved the docks and large deck. The house was very comfortable and well stocked. A little dated but great for our family and dog. Nice yard with 2 large trees to hang out under on a hot day. Surprisingly quiet for being right off the road and near the marina. Very safe area for dogs and children well away from the main road. Great view of the bluff. Nice thunderstorms in the evening. Beautiful lake, clean and warm. We were there in early August. We would definitely love to come back!”

– Taken by Fiona A. from Pepperell, MA, who stayed at Loon Landing on Keuka Lake.

“This house was perfect for our family! It is so beautiful inside. Everything was very clean and well kept. It felt like home. The mattresses were very comfortable, unlike some homes we have stayed at in the past. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything I needed to cook all the meals for the week. There is plenty of outside seating to accommodate all guests. We caught pike, large and smallmouth bass, and a catfish right off the dock. There were 2 kayaks that came with the property. We enjoyed the house so much we are going to book it for the same week next year. This home exceeded our expectations!”

– Taken by Julie G. from Thompsontown, PA, who stayed at Eastern Beauty on Keuka Lake.

Thank you to all of our guests who shared their wonderful photos throughout the year. We always look forward to seeing the smiling faces, sleeping babies, adorable puppies, and unforgettable moments of your vacation in the Finger Lakes!

Real Estate Success Converts to a New Vacation Rental

By: Zakary Klick

Penn Yan, NY – A local property recently sold by the Finger Lakes Premier Properties (FLPP) Real Estate department will be re-entering the market as a Vacation Rental this summer.

FLPP was able to list, market and sell this striking Seneca Lake home, their second sale this year on Shingle Point Road. The new homeowners of this lakeside cottage have worked with FLPP with purchasing and now listing the home as a vacation rental.

The twofold package of offering vacation rental management and real estate sales to potential buyers has become an obvious partnership for many investment buyers in the Finger Lakes.

In fact, after the transaction this past fall, FLPP employees have been working full tilt to ready the property for this summer’s peak season – obtaining quality photos and drone footage, producing a virtual tour, and priming the maintenance and housekeeping staff for the new addition. The company is happy to share that the property can now be viewed on YouTube via drone, virtually toured here, and reserved on their webpage here.

Cynthia Emerling, the Real Estate Sales Manager credited with the Shingle Point property sale, has been a licensed Associate Broker since 1993. She started with Finger Lakes Premier Properties in 2012, and has brought her passion for quality service with her. The department received 100% satisfaction ratings from their clients and customers in 2016, and has been working to ensure that same repute can be delivered as they reach the end of the 2017 marking period.

If you are interested in more information on owning a lakefront home for personal use or as an investment, contact FLPP at 888-599-4810, or email them at sales@FLPPlake.com.

Q3 Lakefront Real Estate Report

Finger Lakes Premier Properties is the region’s lakefront specialists for sales across the region. Our team of highly knowledgeable, experienced, and successful Buyer and Seller Specialists provide a complimentary analysis of lakefront market trends each quarter.

The real estate market continues to be strong in the Finger Lakes Region. Lakes such as Cayuga and Seneca, where homes are selling faster and at a higher average price.

Here at Finger Lakes Premier Properties we have seen an increase in quick sales this year. For example, two listings on the west side of Seneca Lake, Anthony Beach Road and Arrowhead Beach Road, sold in less than 2 weeks. The reason? It is because the number of homes available on these lakes is down, while the interest is up.  While Keuka Lake has had very little change over the last year, it remains to be  a strong seller’s market, especially in the price range between $300,000 and $600,000. We have also had homes on both East and West Lake Roads sell in under the 2 weeks.

Canandaigua Lake remains steady year-over-year, maintaining its position as one of the highest priced lakes to purchase a new home. Whereas Honeoye and Conesus Lakes, even though they are located right next to Canandaigua Lake, offer buyers the best pricing with average sale prices between $230,000 and $275,000. These Lakes offer first time lake buyers and those looking for a bargain, great buying opportunities.
Overall, each of the lakes have their own character and offer buyers different specifities, which makes using a lakefront specialist even more vital for your purchase. Interest rates will not stay this low forever! Take advantage of the unique buying opportunities and low interest rates and find the right lakefront home for your family.

Where to Experience the Top 5 Winter Activities in the Finger Lakes

By: Zakary Klick

Wintertime in the Finger Lakes is a quiet time of year, but it is not without plenty to do. The area has many attractions for winter enthusiasts and all of them have the beautiful Finger Lakes backdrop. The air is crisp, the snowscape stunning, and the silence, serene. Having worked in the region for nearly 25 years, we at Finger Lakes Premier Properties have taken the time to sufficiently compile a list of the top 5 wintertime activities and where best to partake:

#5 – Snowshoe the Trails
Finding yourself close to the east side of the Finger Lakes? Snowshoe to the frozen Taughannock Falls near Ithaca along Cayuga Lake! Taughannock Falls is the tallest gorge in NYS with numerous trails. Coupled with the natural beauty of the area, strapping on snowshoes is a fun way to explore the Finger Lakes in the winter! For a guide to more trails throughout the region, visit GoFingerLakes.org.

Vacation Rentals in Close Proximity to Taughannock Falls: Blue Heron Lodge and A Shore Thing

#4 – Ice Fishing
Some of the best fishing in the Finger Lakes is in the winter. Keuka Lake, in particular, is famous for this style of fishing, especially for lake trout, rainbow trout, brown trout and landlocked salmon. Despite the shifty winter the last few years, the tip of Keuka Lake (in Penn Yan) typically freezes over for locals to enjoy the winter tradition during the first few months of each year. Book a vacation home along this section of the lake, drop a line, and experience Finger Lakes fishing in icy fashion!

Vacation Rentals on the tip of Keuka Lake (Penn Yan):  Cedar Lodge and Brandy Bay Serenity

#3 – Experience 2300 Degrees
Experience one of the most popular events at the Corning Museum of Glass. At 2300 Degrees you’ll be impressed with hot glass shows, live music, local wineries and brewery tastings, meet & greets with the artists, and more! This event is held on the third Thursday of each month, November through March, click here for more details.

Vacation Rentals near the Corning Museum of Glass: Seneca Fun & Sun and Absolutely Shore

#2 – Sip & Savor
Our region is home to over 100 wineries and breweries, and the winter happens to be one of the best times to get the complete tasting experience. With reduced traffic during the colder months, don’t be surprised if the person pouring your samples is the owner and winemaker. Take advantage of their extra attention by asking them about their favorite wines and places to visit. You’re sure to get some terrific local recommendations. To plan your winter wine tour, check out the local wine trails: Keuka Lake Wine Trail, Seneca Lake Wine Trail, and Cayuga Lake Wine Trail.

Vacation Rentals with Close Proximity to Wineries: Crystal Palace and Sails and Sunsets

#1 – Shred
If you love to ski and snowboard, a visit to Bristol Mountain Winter Resort is a must-stop with 138 acres featuring 35 slopes. Or, if you’re looking to try something new, book a private class or lessons with their seasoned experts. Great for all ages!

Lakefront Real Estate Sales Report: Quarter 2 Highlights

Finger Lakes Premier Properties is the region’s lakefront specialists for sales across the region. Our team of highly knowledgeable, experienced, and successful Buyer and Seller Specialists provide a complimentary analysis of lakefront market trends each quarter.

As we enter the second half of 2017, the real estate market stays strong. Annually, the Finger Lakes has generated over $30 million, with FLPP accounting for 23% of these total sales. Below is the Quarter 2 Lakefront Sales Report. If you have more questions, contact our sales team today by calling 888-599-4810.

Analysis of lakefront homes sold on seven of the Finger Lakes, statics aggregated from MLS.

As shown in the chart above, the number of sales decreased 26% as compared to last year, increasing buyer competition. Homes are in high demand on Seneca and Keuka Lake, with multiple offers coming in on homes in the mid-price range of $300,000 to $600,000.

The decrease in average sale price along most lakes indicates that this year’s buyers are looking at the affordability of lakefront homes. Buyers are aware of the current market and are quick to make an offer on homes priced fairly. This could be attributed to the ADM on Conesus and Honeoye Lakes dropping by at least 40% this year. On the other hand, homes priced at $600,000 and above, tend to sit a bit longer.

The increased advertising and media attention on vacation rentals, along with the addition of Uber and Lyft to the Finger Lakes, is creating more demand for both vacation experiences in these homes as well as ownership of these lakefront residences. Listing your home as early as mid-August will put you ahead of the game but still allow you to enjoy the lake through the end of this summer. With the market strong and interest rates low, this is prime time for buying and selling lakefront homes.
