Peace and tranquility surround those who vacation at "The Rocks"! As soon as you turn off the main road and begin to descend the long, private dirt driveway lined with wildflowers and mature trees, you begin your journey back in time. As you reach the back of the cottage, painted yellow and trimmed in red, white & blue, you are greeted by a charming rock garden and slate patio. Enter the cottage through the door by the patio, which opens directly into a well equipped kitchen, featuring a charming, built-in hutch and a Pennsylvania Dutch feeling. Off the kitchen at the back of the cottage is the dining room, with solid pine paneling flanked by an antique hutch on one end and an antique desk on the other end. Directly in the middle is a comfortable table painted in "Peter Hunt" style, ideal for family dinners, conversation, embellished stories and memorable times. Walk from the dining room into the living room, where you are greeted with a magnificent view of Seneca Lake! The living room, decorated in red, white & blue, features a game table, comfortable couch, TV and charming, natural stone gas fireplace with a deer head mounted above the mantle that contributes to the rustic cabin feel. Upstairs are 4 bedrooms, each offering their own unique attributes. Harriet's Room is a medium sized bedroom with a full bed, the Children's Room has a beautiful view of the lake, 2 twin beds, and brings back memories of "Good Night Moon". The Blue Room offers a gorgeous view of the lake, with 2 twin beds and a desk in front of the window for writing, reading or meditating. Finally, the Yellow Room is a small bedroom with a twin bed, perfect for one! The upstairs vintage bathroom is decorated in floral print wall paper and contains the original claw foot tub installed in the early 1940's. A fifth bedroom has its own entrance off the slate patio on the first floor, complete with a queen size bed and a full bathroom with small walk in shower. Perfect for some quiet time. The front porch off the living room features a lovely porch swing and comfortable wicker furniture to enjoy the spectacular sunsets, sip wine after a long day of touring the wineries, or to lull children to sleep. Take the steps off the porch, down the sloping incline, to a landing with an arbor. Pass through the arbor and follow the 22 steps to the 180 feet of natural, stone beach. There is a picnic table at the lakefront, perfect for enjoying a meal and shaded by a large, walnut tree. Use the main dock, designed perfectly to get more outstanding views of Seneca Lake or enjoy fishing or sun bathing. Located on the east side of Seneca Lake, close to Hazlitt Vineyards and Watkins Glen. Ithaca is just 20 minutes over the hill. The best words to describe this idyllic spot are it is a secluded, serene place where you can still see the stars and fireflies at night and wake to the sound of birds and chipmunks in the mornings. A visit to "The Rock" is like going back in time when life was simple and less complicated offering the perfect escape to recharge your mind, body and spirit before returning to life as usual.
