Comfortable House
Stayed at Heart of Honeoye for the holiday week with my family and overall, it was a great week. The house was comfortable with plenty of amenities and gorgeous views, and the small air conditioning units were sufficient to take the edge off during a warm, summer week, especially when combined with the ceiling fans in each bedroom. First the positives - the kitchen was well stocked with plenty of pots, pans, dishes and utensils which made living in the house very easy for the week. While we didn't take advantage of it, the house also included a gaming system and plenty of DVD's if you are looking for quiet movie night. It also included some kayaks and a canoe if you can't bring your own. The location was great with a perfect sized yard and just enough lakefront. A small firepit and some firewood was also provided which made the s'mores nights a lot easier, although I'd still recommend bringing or buying some of your own wood and kindling to get the fire started. The neighbors were all great and welcoming even though we were only there a week. A few minor negatives, although not nearly substantial. The house could have been a bit cleaner upon our arrival. There were streaks all over the countertops, stovetop and appliances which showed that there was at least an effort made to clean the place before we arrived, albeit with a bit of a greasy rag. It was also apparent that a large, shedding dog had stayed the previous week as there was dog hair all over the floor. It's important to note that other than a small dresser in the downstairs bedroom, there was nowhere to store our clothes for the week. Each room had a closet, but there were only a handful of hangers for clothes so we ended up placing most of our clothes on the floor. The homeowner may want to consider a small investment in dressers for each of the bedrooms or at least make sure that there are sufficient hangers in the closet to support families that may want to stay at the house. If you are there for a week, it's not ideal to live out of a suitcase. The most substantial negative, and this had nothing to do with the house, is that Honeoye Lake is not really a swimming lake. The seaweed and algae dominate close to shore and at least fifteen to twenty feet off the dock, which makes swimming impossible. If you have kids that are counting on swimming, other lakes may be better options because you cannot swim off the dock of this property. We still made the most of it by bringing our inner tubes to float, but it did put a bit of a damper on things not being able to swim. It also would have been nice if the entire dock had been installed. The photos online showed a wider dock at the end which would have made water access and fishing a bit easier, but parts of the dock were still in the yard and not installed. None of this prevented us from having a great week at the lake. There was plenty of fishing, kayaking, evening fires and game nights to create plenty of memories. There are also plenty of breweries and wineries within proximity to the house if that is something that you are looking for. We hit a brewery each night and didn't drive more than 15 minutes to get to any of them. Overall, we had a great week!

Beautiful view of the lake from the balcony and from inside the house when the weather is bad. A heron hung around the dock a few days while we were there.
