Description Description

Welcome to Cape on the Lake, a spacious colonial-style Finger Lakes vacation rental set along the peaceful eastern shores of Seneca Lake. This lovingly maintained, family-owned vacation home has been cherished for two generations and continues to welcome guests with the same warmth and care that have made it a favorite retreat. With its classic design, stunning lake views, and beautifully landscaped grounds, Cape on the Lake is the perfect destination for families, couples, and friends seeking both relaxation and connection in the heart of the Finger Lakes.

From the moment you arrive, the property’s natural charm makes an impression. Surrounded by lush gardens, mature trees, and colorful blooms, the home sits within a park-like setting that perfectly complements the serenity of Seneca Lake. Custom French doors open to a welcoming foyer, where sunlight spills in and guides your gaze toward the breathtaking views that stretch across the lake from nearly every room.

The main living area is designed for both comfort and togetherness. Newly furnished with soft, modern seating, it’s the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring. Large windows frame panoramic lake views and fill the space with natural light, creating an atmosphere that feels both bright and peaceful. In cooler months, the decorative gas fireplace adds a warm glow, encouraging quiet moments by the fire or family movie nights surrounded by the beauty of the lake just beyond the glass.

The home’s lakefront master suite, located on the main level, offers a restful retreat where the gentle sounds of the water provide a soothing backdrop. A king-size bed ensures comfort, while sliding glass doors open directly to views of Seneca Lake. The spacious walk-through closet connects to a Jack-and-Jill bathroom with tiled walls and a shower/tub combination for convenience. A second bedroom on this level features a queen bed and overlooks the property’s gardens through tall windows, creating a cozy, tranquil space for additional guests.

The kitchen at Cape on the Lake blends traditional charm with modern function. Outfitted with custom walnut cabinetry and granite countertops, it’s fully equipped for preparing everything from simple breakfasts to multi-course dinners. Gather fresh local produce from Geneva’s farmers’ markets or nearby roadside stands, then share your creations around the formal dining table, which offers sweeping lake views through large picture windows. Whether it’s a family-style meal, a weekend brunch, or a quiet dinner at sunset, every moment here feels special.

Upstairs, two additional bedrooms continue the theme of comfort and timeless elegance. Each features a queen bed and serene lake views, providing inviting retreats for guests. Soft lighting, classic furnishings, and thoughtful details ensure everyone enjoys a restful night’s sleep.

The finished lower level adds a layer of versatility and privacy, perfect for extended families or guests seeking their own space. Designed as an “in-law suite,” it features a spacious family room with comfortable furniture and a flat-screen TV, ideal for movie nights or quiet relaxation. A cozy bedroom with both a queen and a twin bed is tucked into the hillside, and the adjoining galley-style kitchen makes this area a self-contained retreat. A full bathroom with a shower/tub combination completes the space, making it perfect for longer stays or multi-family vacations.

Step outside, and the natural beauty of Seneca Lake becomes the star of the show. The property offers 130 feet of pristine lakefront, complete with a large permanent dock ideal for swimming, sunbathing, or casting a line for fish. Spend your mornings kayaking across the glassy water or your afternoons lounging on the dock with a good book and a cool drink. As evening falls, gather on the expansive lakeside deck to watch the sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky in breathtaking hues of gold and crimson—a perfect close to another day in the Finger Lakes.

The home’s location makes it easy to explore all the region has to offer. Just minutes away, downtown Geneva welcomes visitors with charming boutiques, farm-to-table restaurants, and a lively arts scene. Stop by Ventosa Vineyards or Three Brothers Wineries and Estates to sample some of the area’s best wines, or visit Bottomless Brewing for craft beer and a relaxed, local vibe. On summer evenings, downtown Geneva often hosts live music and outdoor events, adding to the energy and excitement of your stay.

For those seeking outdoor adventure, the nearby Seneca Lake State Park offers walking and biking trails, picnic areas, and scenic lake views. You can also take a leisurely drive along the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, stopping at world-class wineries and tasting rooms that showcase the flavors of the region.

At Cape on the Lake, every detail has been thoughtfully designed to make your stay as comfortable as it is memorable. The home’s layout offers the perfect balance of shared spaces and private retreats, making it ideal for multi-generational gatherings or groups of friends traveling together. Finding fossils in the lake was an unexpected surprise and really was exciting for the whole family. The sunsets were also amazing! Overall we loved spending time together in the back yard.

We loved staying here. The view of the lake was beautiful and we loved sitting on the dock. We were able to view the meteor shower one night! Our family enjoyed wine country and we went to Niagara falls which was a bit of a drive but worth it!

Wonderful property, plenty of things to do, wineries, cheese tastings, restaurants, ice cream stands for the kids, Watkins Glen, etc, etc. Fun for everyone.

family fun week
Wonderful setting, quiet and relaxing. Plenty to do in the near vicinity (wineries, restaurants, ice cream, cheese tasting, boating, campfires, kid friendly, etc. large front yard for outdoor games. Spectacular sunsets . One minor suggestion, we could only find 2 regular knives. Somehow we overcame that very minor inconvenience with good old plastic silverware. Haha. Everyone had a great week.

This house was ideal for my family of 9. It had plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for everyone. Plenty of outdoor space to play corn hole or play on the dock and in the water. The fire pit was great for s'mores. We made use of and enjoyed the kayaks daily. The deck was great to watch the kids in the water and/or get out of the rain.

HWS Graduation family stay
The outdoor living space was fantastic and the views were absolutely stunning!! The property was clean and well maintained, however the main floor and second floor were a bit out dated. The lower level bedrooms and bathrooms were great. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay at this vacation rental. We were there to attend our son's graduation from Hobart and William Smith Colleges. The location was in great proximity to the school. The property was clean and well maintained. The bedrooms were spacious and there was plenty of room to accommodate our family. The lake views were also spectacular! We look forward to visiting again.

We loved our stay and would absolutely return again!
We loved our stay here. It was a perfect size and location. But most of all, you can tell that the owner really takes care of it. We were super impressed with the landscaping and exterior lighting at night. It made the property feel safe, looked really good, made it easier to find when driving back in the dark, but didn’t overwhelm. I’d love to get info on how they set it up.

Seneca Lake

We had a wonderful stay at Cape on the Lake. The location was perfect for exploring the Seneca Lake area. This property is owned by a rental group so the typical amenities are missing…soap, shampoo, salt/pepper etc. They do provide a start up supply of toilet paper and trash bags and this is all clearly communicated with you through email. Beautiful property and area. We loved our visit!

This was the nicest lake house we've ever rented! It was absolutely beautiful! The views, decks, and outside areas were amazing! The dock was huge & very nice quality. The swimming area was massive and we spent a lot of time in the water. We also spent a lot of time on the deck and outside patio. The materials & furniture were extremely high quality and well planned out. The basement looked newly renovated and was practically a whole separate unit. Our teenagers loved it! The main floor and top floor need some updating but there was plenty of room and lots of great spaces. (We wished there'd been a bathroom upstairs though) Again, we absolutely loved this property - especially the outdoor spaces which were the best we've found in the Finger Lakes area. We'd love to come back sometime!

Cape on the Lake is a beautiful home for your vacation. We loved the outdoor spaces. The entire property is beautifully landscaped. The back deck was the perfect hangout, there's multiple sitting areas throughout the property, and the dock is just glorious. Really loved the beach area, with a fire pit to boot. It's located about 20 minutes from Geneva, and very close to many excellent wineries. Truly loved Cape on the Lake, highly recommend!

Beautiful sunsets, very nice house

Our family of 10 stayed here for a week and the house was great! You can’t beat the nightly sunsets over Seneca Lake with a perfect view from the deck. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms, comfortable beds, nice linens, cool AC, and generally a well cared-for home. Two kayaks for use by renters were a great addition. Kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils, dishes, pots & pans, etc. but you definitely need to bring your own paper products and cleaning/laundry supplies. Only negative: checkout is 10am which I’ve never experienced at any other rental property or hotel. 11am is standard and would really be a good change so that large families have time to pack up, wash dishes, gather up towels, load up the cars, etc. We were very rushed trying to get out by 10am — and that timing was not published anywhere in the house, nor mentioned in any emails from the property management company. I only found it by going back to the original VRBO listing. Please consider changing checkout to 11am and then the house will be perfect.

Great place for young families because of the fenced in front yard. The dock is beautiful and the new porch was amazing. The addition of a fire pit helped with our smores nights. Love the outside color, too! It has a very homey feeling there. We made so many positive memories!
