Description Description

Welcome to Fossil Beach, a timeless Finger Lakes vacation rental that perfectly blends history, privacy, and lakeside charm. Nestled along the peaceful west shore of Canandaigua Lake, this beloved cottage-style vacation home captures the essence of classic lake living while offering the modern comforts today’s travelers appreciate. Whether you’re here for family fun, a quiet retreat surrounded by nature, or an adventure-filled getaway on the water, Fossil Beach provides the perfect setting for your next Finger Lakes escape.

Built in 1920, this historic lake cottage embodies the spirit of old-fashioned Finger Lakes hospitality. Set on a heavily wooded lot far from the main road, the home offers a serene, secluded environment where the only sounds you’ll hear are the gentle lapping of waves and the rustle of leaves in the breeze. It’s a place where time slows down — a sanctuary for those who crave peace, simplicity, and connection.

Step through the small covered porch into the cozy main living area, where warmth and character immediately welcome you in. A decorative fireplace anchors the space, surrounded by comfortable seating that invites you to unwind after a day on the lake. Large picture windows and glass doors frame captivating views of Canandaigua Lake, filling the home with soft natural light and making you feel connected to the water from nearly every angle. Whether you’re gathered for a family movie night, reading a favorite book, or simply enjoying good company, this open, inviting space feels like the heart of the home.

The adjoining kitchen and dining area offer everything you need to make mealtime easy and enjoyable. The fully equipped kitchen features modern appliances, generous counter space, and all the cookware and utensils you’ll need to prepare your favorite dishes. The dining area comfortably seats your entire group, creating the perfect setting for home-cooked meals, lively conversation, and laughter that carries late into the evening.

Upstairs, Fossil Beach continues to charm with its cozy, cottage-style bedrooms. The master suite offers a luxurious king-size bed and a private ensuite bathroom, providing a peaceful sanctuary for rest and relaxation. Additional bedrooms are thoughtfully furnished with comfort and function in mind, some featuring partial lake views that make waking up a joy. Each space carries the home’s vintage charm — from its sloped ceilings to its timeless wood accents — creating a nostalgic yet comfortable atmosphere. A shared full bathroom ensures convenience for all guests.

One of the most enchanting spaces in the home is the screened porch off the second floor. Overlooking the trees and lake, this airy retreat is ideal for slow mornings or restful afternoons. Relax with a good book, sip coffee while listening to the birds, or enjoy an afternoon nap as the soft breeze drifts through. Beginning in 2024, this porch will feature a twin daybed with a trundle, offering additional sleeping space for family or friends who want to fall asleep to the sound of the lake.

Outside, Fossil Beach offers an outdoor paradise for those who love the water. With over 335 feet of private lakefront, guests can swim, paddle, or fish right from the property. The gradual, walk-in shoreline makes water access easy for guests of all ages, while the private dock provides the perfect spot to cast a line or simply relax in the sun. For guests who prefer exploring, non-motorized watercraft are available to use, allowing you to glide across Canandaigua’s calm waters and discover hidden coves and quiet stretches of shoreline.
When evening arrives, gather your group around the lakeside firepit for one of the property’s most magical experiences. The crackle of the fire, the shimmer of moonlight on the water, and the laughter of loved ones create the kind of moments that define a truly special vacation. Roast marshmallows, share stories, and watch as the night sky fills with stars — all from your private lakeside retreat.

Beyond the property, Fossil Beach’s prime location offers easy access to some of the Finger Lakes’ most beloved attractions. Just 20 minutes south lies the village of Naples, a charming town known for its boutique shops, farm-to-table restaurants, and the famous Naples Grape Festival, which celebrates the region’s harvest every fall. Outdoor enthusiasts will love visiting Grimes Glen Park, where waterfalls and shallow pools invite you to hike, splash, and explore. Head north toward Canandaigua for even more dining, shopping, and entertainment options, including local breweries, waterfront restaurants, and scenic boat tours.

For guests visiting in winter, the adventure continues. The area offers skiing and snowboarding at Bristol Mountain, snowshoeing through the surrounding hills, or simply cozy evenings by the fire as the snow falls outside. Because the home sits on a gradual slope, guests are advised to use four-wheel drive during snowy months for easy access and peace of mind.

Every detail at Fossil Beach has been thoughtfully designed to create a stay that feels both effortless and extraordinary. The combination of its historic character, spacious interiors, and private lakefront setting make it an ideal choice for families, groups, or anyone seeking to experience the authentic charm of the Finger Lakes. The wooded lot ensures privacy, while the open floor plan and expansive outdoor spaces encourage connection and togetherness — the hallmarks of a perfect lake getaway.

Whether you’re spending the day kayaking along the shoreline, exploring nearby wineries, or relaxing on the dock with a glass of local Riesling, Fossil Beach offers a rare blend of comfort, tranquility, and natural beauty. This vacation home isn’t just a place to stay — it’s a place to create memories that will stay with you long after your visit ends. Book your stay at Fossil Beach today and experience a Finger Lakes vacation rental that embodies the best of lake life: peaceful mornings, starry nights, and timeless moments shared with the people who matter most.

We enjoyed stargazing by the fire pit while our dogs sniffed around the shoreline. We also loved the hot tub option when the weather turned a bit chilly. Itï¾’s a beautiful property and we hope to return.

This house was perfect for us!
Super clean and very comfortable bedrooms. We were able to go down to the water every day and kayak a little, or fish from the dock. I appreciated that it had some live TV service so we were able to watch some sports. Nice little welcome basket:) Do note, as it says, the driveway is steep. However we were all able to get down and turn around just fine. Also the walk down to the lake is steep, but it is very nicely lit and the walkway is well maintained.

Thank you for a beautiful home and a very comfortable stay!
We enjoyed our time at this lovely property. As a note, the stairs to the lake are extensive and a bit steep, and the ground at the bottom can be slippery, so keep that in mind if anyone in your group has mobility issues. The whole experience was excellent - just noting this for future travelers. Thanks again!

Cozy cabin in the woods
This was our first time visiting the Finger Lakes. We really enjoyed our stay at this home. It had a cozy cabin feel tucked in the woods with beautiful views of the lake. We found the house clean and accommodating. The kitchen was well maintained. The porch was a nice place to relax. We plan to come back.

Spring Delight
We went in April to potentially see the eclipse and spend family time. The eclipse was a bust but the family time was perfect. The hot tub, fossil hunting and stone skipping by the lake were the highlights. Beds were comfortable and the dining table accommodated all ten of us comfortably. If you can’t do steep stairs (up to the bedrooms inside and down to the lake outside) then this is not the place for you. The view and sunrises are gorgeous. Onanda Park, with a playground and hiking trails, is only 3 minutes away. We would love to return in the summer when we could do more lake activities.

Be Prepared for lot of Stairs !

Warning: If any of your group have a problem with stairs, this may not be right for you. The indoor stairs to the upper level are narrow, steep risers, shallow steps, open on one side and without carpet or treads. Additionally, the outdoor stairs down to the dock and the fire pit are a triple flight of steps to the bottom. The house did not have nearly enough bathroom or kitchen towels for 9 people and if you wanted more, you had to pay more. Really? And the first night we arrived after a long day of traveling and unpacking, we pulled back our bedspreads to find out that the beds only had bottom sheets & pillow cases - no top sheets. So we had to find the sheets and make our beds last minute. Now, for the good stuff: The house is very bright and full of beautiful views of the lake. It's quiet and secluded but there are neighbors around if you needed them. The water toys were great and we loved sitting around the front porch talking and listening to good music each night. The kitchen and dining area is the property's best feature. It was well equipped and spacious with seating for 12. Very Nice.

July 2023

Had a great week with family. Home was updated, comfortable and ideally located in a quiet wooded location with a well stocked kitchen and ample room for 5 adults, a 3 year old and a dog. Enjoyed fishing off the dock and even caught a few perch and catfish. Found some fossils along the lake front too! Took advantage of kayaks, rowboat and swimming in the lake. Outdoor space by the lake was a small cement or muddy area even on dry days so space was not ideal for lounging lakeside especially with a dog and a toddler, but the small dock was perfect for fishing. We did enjoy a fire in the fire pit by the lake. As others mentioned, there are many steep steps to get to the lake so not good for any one that has issues with stairs but great exercise for everyone! Could use a new ladder on the dock to replace the rusty one with sharp edges. Bath towels provided were small and scratchy so was glad I brought a few from home. Could also use a new frying pan to replace worn pans with the non stick coating heavily scratched. We had an issue with the PIN code when we first arrived and although it took a few tries and several stints on hold the response was fast and resolved. We had to replace batteries in remotes for TV and ceiling fan and found some dog hair around floors and furniture from past occupants, so a little more attention to the smaller details would be appreciated. Overall enjoyed Fossil Beach and all it had to offer. Would definitely consider a return trip.

Beautiful Lake Front Property!!

Me and my party just left this Fossil Beach property and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about it. The view is beautiful, you have great views of the lake from the front porch as well as the kitchen. It's a nice private area and the house is beautiful. We arrived and everything was so clean, it was great to walk in to. We had no complaints and had a wonderful time there. Would 100% go back again!

Canandaigua Lake Retreat and Memorable Views!

Our group of adults( parents and grown children with spouses) enjoyed the property very much. Quiet and private. Nice access to the lake and fun water toys. Set up was very good for eating together (large table) and watching TV (plenty of setting , we were a party of 6). More than enough sleeping arrangements too. Due to location, we did drive a lot to get to activities but the house amenities made that worthwhile.

We very much enjoyed this property. The house is situated on a beautiful, private wooded lot that overlooks the lake. Access to the lake is down a few flights of stairs to the dock, kayaks, and fire pit. We enjoyed this area very much and spent the days on the lake or lounging in the bright yellow Adirondack chairs .. evenings too around the fire. The kitchen was a dream to cook in and I'm in love with the farm house sink.. We used the grill a-lot too and the picnic area outside. Between the morning sunrises and viewing the stars from the dock at night, this house really provided the best change of scenery and loads of fun family time. Thank you for having us.

Great place for a getaway.

We had a great mini vacation at Fossil Beach. Overall we enjoyed the house and the location The property was very difficult to locate, especially at night. There were barely any lights outside which made it difficult to see. The house itself was very nice and we enjoyed staying there.

The Fossil Beach property is a great place for a getaway. We went as a group of friends with our dogs. We loved the location and the view. The house itself was great and spacious. We were worried about not having WiFi/cable, but we found that we spent a lot of our time out of the house.

Nice place to stay on the lake

Property is exactly like the photos. Cozy inside, but enough room for 5. Great lake access, we enjoyed kayaking, sitting on the dock watching the boats go by, and hanging out under the pergola reading and chatting. Kitchen is well stocked with pots/pans/baking items. We were quite pleased.

We love staying in the finger lakes and using Premiere Properties! After two years at Canandaigua we prefer to go back to Keuka where we have spent many happy years and are more familiar with our surrounding area. Fossil Beach was a risk that we took and were pleasantly surprised on what was accomplished on this property circumstances being what they were. Thank You for the best vacations, we look forward every year!!!
