Where Is Watkins Glen, NY?

It’s important to know a little background on the Watkins Glen area before you head out for a visit. The small village of Watkins Glen is in Schuyler County and is home to less than 2,000 permanent residents. Although small, there are many great things to do in Watkins Glen, NY, like the Gorge Trail!

About Gorge Trail

Due to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19, Watkins Glen State Park is asking all Gorge Trail hikers to wear a face mask or covering while on the trail and follow social distancing guidelines where possible.

11 narrow lakes make up the Finger Lakes’ unique geography. With so much flowing water in the area, it’s no surprise that it’s filled with stunning gorges. Watkins Glen State Park is one of the best places to explore a Finger Lakes gorge! The Gorge Trail is a stunning two-mile trek that highlights 19 waterfalls and several gorges. You can also enjoy the refreshing spray of Cavern Cascade along the way!

Hiking the Gorge Trail is the most popular activity at this New York state park. There are more things to do for campers and day visitors alike, though! Enjoy an Olympic-sized swimming pool, picnic sights, and first-class fishing opportunities.

1. Aerial Adventure Park

The Aerial Adventure Park will put your balance and bravery to the test. It features more than seven elevated courses in the forest canopy. Begin with the easiest courses, which are marked in yellow. Then, work your way up to the hardest course: the black course.

Catch your breath at the platforms and then catch an adrenaline high as you tackle the 12-15 elements on each course. You’ll encounter zip lines, rope ladders, tightrope walks, bridges, and a few heart-pounding surprises!

2. Zipline Canopy Tour

If you’ve always wanted to see things from a bird’s point of view, this is your chance. This experience begins a short ride to the launch point in the forest canopy, detailed instructions, and safety tips. You’ll be wearing a helmet and harness, but the guts and glory will be all yours as you step off the platform and zip down a cable. The ride will be a fast one, but remember to look around and take in the incredible scenery. With 7 ziplines, four bridges, two hikes, and two off-road rides, the Zipline Canopy Tour is sure to be one of the highlights of your trip to the Finger Lakes.

3. Kids Adventure Park

The little ones in your group won’t have to sit this one out. The Kids Adventure Park is designed just for those who are age 4-7. These obstacles are closer to the ground, but your kiddos will still feel accomplished (and have a blast) as they walk tightropes, scale walls, navigate rope ladders, and much more. Be sure to have a camera handy to catch the smiles on their faces. The children wear safety gear and there are plenty of staff around to help them through the obstacles if they need it.

Hours, Pricing, and More

During the summer months, the park is open daily from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. From mid-September to mid-October, it’s only open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. From late October until the first of November, it’s only open on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. until dusk.

Regular admission for adventurers aged 7 and up will get you 3 hours of climbing time. Reservations are required.

The Kids Adventure Park is only for kids aged 4-7 and it’s for one hour of climbing time. This is first-come, first-served, so you may need to wait until there is availability, but there is plenty to watch and learn while you do!

Be sure to wear comfortable, well-fitted clothing and closed-toe non-slip shoes. Check their website for additional information regarding safety and FAQs, including age, height and weight restrictions.

2. Quality Photos Are Everything

Would you want to stay in a vacation rental with blurry, low-quality pictures? The answer is probably not. Photos are one of the first things a potential guest looks for, and you do not want to disappoint. The truth is, people are probably not going to read about your property unless they like what they see.

We highly recommend getting a professional photographer, but if that’s not possible, make sure you take your photos with good natural lighting. Also, make sure you have plenty of updated photos to show off just how amazing your property is! Don’t forget to include pictures of your unique amenities like the fire pit, hot tub, and gorgeous lake view.

3. Know What Potential Guests Really Need

Imagine staying in a vacation home with a full kitchen, stocking up on groceries, and getting ready to cook a gourmet meal, only to find out there are no kitchen utensils or supplies in the house!

Make sure your home is equipped with all the necessities like kitchen supplies, clean linens, toilet paper, soap, and towels to make it easier for anyone staying in your vacation rental.

4. Create The Best Guest Experience

Maximizing your vacation home means creating the best guest experience. Make your visitors feel at home by showing that you care! By providing all of the material items they may need during their trip, Finger Lakes recommendations, and a clean vacation home, you can expect to see your guests return year after year.

Not only does an amazing vacation experience create returning guests, but you can also expect fantastic reviews. And, excellent reviews lead to more bookings and more income!

5. Choose Finger Lakes Premier Properties as Your Vacation Rental Management Company

We’re more than just marketing tips. We’ll talk the talk as well as walk the walk. Your rental property will be in great hands when you let Finger Lakes Premier Properties manage your home.
